CAM Strain Highlight: Biscotti BX1

Recently, this strain was given a spotlight by LA Weekly’s own Jimi Devine as part of their Strains of Summer 2023. He described the terpene profile as “a trip down memory road to the Biscotti flavors that made the strain famous” and had to admit after smoking some that “one might argue the backcross is even louder than the original.”

A favorite knockout strain for many veteran smokers, by now most smokers know Biscotti buds are footballs for cats. The BX here stands for a backcross, meaning it was bred with itself to create a super Biscotti of sorts. Dotted by leaves that stack like dragon scales around the nugs, these feel fully inflated and have bright orange hairs that look like laces before you even get up on the ball.

Just like how orange essence is used in cooking, opening a jar of BX1 is popping the top on some Biscotti essence. The smell from the buds is a deep concentration of aroma that’s powerful and intoxicating without being overpowering. If Byredo made a Biscotti fragrance, this would be it. The flower has flashes of a gasoline-and-grape-juice smell once it’s taken off the stem and some of that seems to carry over into the dry inhale. Subtle, gassy but with a little bit of licorice, you have to look past the full-bodied cookie dough for the flavor notes, but this strain has such overwhelming Biscotti properties that it’s cool to see an area where it walks quietly into the room.

The flavor takes that dry pull and lets it blossom out like a cactus flower in the desert night. The whole thing reaches out and fills the space along with your senses. It’s smoky and robust and can take your breath away with a big hit so be careful. This strain will give your head a quick change that would rival that of Superman or Spiderman.
